Marc is a seasoned financial expert with close to 30 years of worldwide investment, commercial and development banking experience. The seeds for this Foundation were planted in the 90’s when he delivered loan packages for the International Finance Corporation (IFC) which were underwritten by ING Barings for renewable energy projects in emerging markets. As an advisor to EDF, he was involved in Africa’s first wind park in the 90’s. To bring renewable energy to emerging markets he entered the developing banks’ world in 2003 and has been involved in many RE projects on the African continent. He advised the European Commission (EC) in 2013 on ‘an equity instrument for the private sector finance of renewable energy’ which resulted in ElectriFI, a scheme designed to deliver early grants convertible into subordinated debt instruments alongside a technical assistance unit (‘standardising RE project descriptions’). He managed to get it approved by all 28 EU-member countries. This Foundation is fulfilling the role of the assistance unit, which did not end up at ElectriFI or elsewhere in the way designed. Marc performs a.o. ‘blended finance’ and ‘financial readiness’ expert roles with the EC and is thought-leader of the EU crowdfunding under the ‘digital nexus’ program, aiming at reaching 740 million EU inhabitants for lending into renewable energy in Africa. Through 1to3 Capital B.V. (from 1 to 3 children in 2006 by birth of twin-boys) Marc also prepares credit proposals for alternative finance propositions
The Foundation is a private initiative aiming at catalysing private sector funding to renewable energy projects where the need for affordable, reliable and sustainable energy is highest. The members of the BankabilityLab Foundation do have their own businesses, hence, the Foundation is a complementary service but secondary to their primary income-earning-base.
